On the earliest survey maps for the Republic of Texas, the path of Trammel's Trace was noted more often in Harrison County than in any of the others it crossed. From the Big Cypress Bayou in the north to the "Bloody Prairie," the Sabine River and Ramsdale's Ferry in the south, the history of the first road to Texas in Harrison County is unlike any other.
In this presentation, we will take a look at that route and tell the unique stories of Trammel's Trace before Marshall was founded in 1841.
The presentation will be in the courtroom of the beautifully restored old Harrison County Courthouse.
